1983 GS650GLD wiring

I changed my burnt out indicator bulbs and now have a problem with the
kick stand one.

Is there something I am not aware of, or is there just a short.
When the side stand is up circuit through switch is open. CORRECT.
When the two wire are plugged into the harness, and the stand is up, the
light comes on. INCORRECT.
The resistance through the harness and bulb, with the switch out, is
about 8 Ohms, which seems a bit high for a short.

Also in the headlight bucket is a clear connector with a diode inside
it. What's that for?

Haven't ordered manual yet.
