1982 SECA 750

    I'm searching for some help for my man who is trying to put this bike
    back together. 1982 SECA 750. Long story short, it hasn't been used in
    about 8 years... it started up, and ran but dumped gas and oil all
    over the place. So he started taking it apart, he cleaned out the
    carbs, put on all new spark plugs, and tubing, etc. Now it starts,
    isn't dumping gas/oil... but it starts up and doesn't stay running. It
    doesn't idle at all. Anyone have any ideas? I'm trying to help him get
    it up and running asap and I have more available time to do research
    than he does!! He is thinking that it still has something to do with
    the carbs.

    OK, the carburetors were overflowing gasoline because the float valves
    were stuck open from the gum and varnish which accumulated as the
    gasoline in the float bowls evaporated.

    Now the float valves are working again, but the idle mixture ports and
    passages are still plugged up with gum and varnish.

    The procedure for cleaning out the idle ports and passages and
    drilling out the EPA anti-tamper plugs to thoroughly clean the idle
    mixture screw has been described a bazillion times in this newsgroup,
    just google for "bazillion", EPA,
    anti-tamper, idle jet, etc.

    Or, he could just try draining the float bowls and refilling the carns
    by squirting Berryman B12 Choke and Carburetor Cleaner down the fuel
    hose and letting that stuff sit in there for half an hour.

    The engine will start and run on B12, and, if he hand chokes the carbs
    by putting his hand over the intake, the B12 will get sucked up into
    the idle ports and passages.

    Hopefully, he won't have to remove the carbs and disassemble them
    again...

    B12 comes in aerosol and liquid forms. The aerosol is handy for
    squirting through the jets and passages, and the liquid form is good
    for adding to the gasoline tank.

    About 4 or 5 ounces to a full tank of gas will keep all the jets and
    passages clean.
