I couldn't think of a nicer place to ask for advice with my Benly, so
    here goes.

I can't get it to run properly. Firstly, I suppose I should tell you
what has been replaced on the bike. It has points ignition by the way.

Condensor, Coil, Plugs, Caps, Carb Serviced and cleaned, new battery
and everything seems to work. That is, until I put it all together.
It'll run, but often only on one cylinder and not very well. However I
have managed to get it firing on both occasionally, and when it does,
it runs fine. I've reset the air screw as per Mr Haynes instructions,
and the air filter is also good (Ive even tried without it).

It's running a little rich, but not too badly. I can get a spark on the
plugs, although addmittedly a pretty crap one, when they're out of the
engine. Stick them in again and it's pot luck whether they ignite any
fuel or not. I just cant figure out what's stopping it from running,
    and continuing to run!

    Regards

    Owen

And while I think about it, I replaced the points too.

About the only thing you have missed out from the list of replaced
    electric's are the plug leads.

    Change the fuel.
    Clean out the carbs.
Make sure all the Earth points are good, especially Battery to Engine case
    if there is one.
Clear the fuel tap of crap
Make sure there aren't any air leaks at the carbs
    Check for clogged air filter.
Then come back and tell how it is

  6. If it's running wrong on one pot, it *has* to be valve or piston
related. The Benly has just one carb, one coil and one set of points,
    shared between both pots.

OTOH, if someone has had the top off and got the cam timing one tooth
    out, that might do it.

Hard to say without looking at it, but it's such a simple bike....

R obbo? He'z just ziz guy, you know?
Crap fuel wouldn't cause poor spark.
    He's done this.
That is about the only thing I can think of, and plug leads.
    He's done this as well.

Or Plug, HT lead or cap. Which would be my first port of call but that's
    already been covered.

Given the OPs original comment on a crap spark I'd suggest changing the
coil as they may be breaking down under load and giving the impression of
    a duff pot.

I once used a laser temperature measuring thing which is excellent for
identifying a misfiring pot by pointing it at each exhaust header. I saw
one quite cheaply (about £20) 'somewhere' on the internet.

Excellent for doing *accurate* wheel alignment on cars. (non-contact

    not?

OK, but the laser is just to show you where you're pointing; nothing
    to do with its operation.

What!! Surely there is a way of making the laser do something useful
other than light the place up? C'mon. I was looking forward to this
really neat explanation of how the colour changed under the influence of
temperature and stuff or something. I am heartbroken now I am.
