I remember a story about him. When the 12hp limit came in, he was paid by
one of the Big Four to come up with a way of restricting some of their bikes
    to the new limit.

Leon came up with a solution that involved fitting a washer somewhere or
other (carbs probably) which pegged the power to more or less 12hp.

After a while, riders started coming to Ledar to have their 12hp bikes
unrestricted. The industrious Mr Moss would then remove the washer and put
it back in his box ready to fit to the next batch of restricted bikes. He
    was a very clever man.

Not sure, I thought they restricted the exhaust with a washer and also
stopped the slide opening too far on the carbs.

    Never having fiddled with a 12bhp learner 125 I wouldn't know though.

The GP125 Suzuki was restricted by simply putting a plastic sleeve on
top of the carb slide, therby restricting its movement. Whip the carb
top off, remove plastic sleeve and an instant power gain was to be had.

  4. That was the GP125 - plastic washer to limit carb slide movement.

That's a 1500TC, that is. You can tell by the square headlight and
    "front-wheel drive" pattern wheel.

I don't think it was as posh as a TC, but it was, indeed, a 1500.

Its multi coloured aspect was the result of a head-on with a Cortina
down a country lane, whilst it had no bumper.

I managed to put a dent in the roof with my head on that occasion.

Observant petrolheads would also have spotted the 40mm twin Weber carb
on the floor in the foreground. That was just about to be refitted to
the Lotus Cortina, behind me, as I took the photo. It's still waiting,
    afaik.

    Thank you.

I had one or two of them, see (along with loads of other SOTriumphs of
that era) and I can tell you that a scruffy little shitbox like that,
with rusty bits and primer patches can really embarass boy racers who
don't realise that it has a be-Webered Dolomite Sprint engine,
overdrive box and back axle in it.

You had to get yer entertainment where you could, then.

  15. I was trying to figure out what that was. Best guess: miniature angle
    grinder?

This was a proper 1500 - front wheel drive, and all.
That was supposed to be the Cortina's job. Gawd knows where it is now.
I have a half share in it, and Dave and I are supposed to split the
profits with my then girlfriend's uncle when we sell it. To give a
timescale, that Z750 was stolen and never recovered in August 1983.

The only bike I've owned that I would gladly own again. It'd be nice
if someone straightened the frame out first, mind.
