Hmm,that date for compulsory retro fitting must have been post 1980
then as I acquired my Minor with an MOT in 1980 with no belts fitted.
I had to retrieve a set from another Minor at the breakers yard.

Akkshirley, thinking about it when I learned to drive the wearing of
belts was not compulsory, however I fitted them to my Minor as I was a
    safety nazi.

Has it ever been tested in court though? Just because it's in the
policy doesn't mean it's legal or correct.

My new policy for the shopping trolley (Admiral, same parent company as
Bell) also excludes the Nurburgring. Not that I'm planning to be in the
    area, but if I was...

    I'm guessing something with a stuck-on throttle.

It was *supposed* to be a Voyager.

At least we now know where to set up the camera.

Nope, it was before then because they were already fitted to that car
when I inherited it from my dad after he got a different newer
Traveller. I was 15 when I got that car, so that would have been 1977.

My 64 Minor definitely has no belts when I acquired it in 1980

I believe it either has been tested or there were a couple of cases
about to go to court when I last looked. However I have this vague
notion that at least one person lost a court case.

They did seem to survive rolling quite well though.
Passenger compartment intact if not the passengers.

Doors flying open all over the place, though.

I think I would prefer the doors flying open to the entire roof being
squashed flat with me in the car. It was also surprising due to the
fact that they have a chassis. You can/could get away with quite
a lot of rust and holes come MOT time, due to the fact that the body
is not a structural part of the vehicles integrity.

Another bonus was that they come equipped with a "Jesus Bar" on the
passenger side for those door moments :)

Me too, I think, but the roofs seemed to hold up pretty well, and there
were a couple of people ejected through the doors, which looked like a
    really bad idea.
This is only true when the chassis is underneath.
    Hm.
