I think what's more noteworthy is just how easily shite old cars will
    topple over.

That's possibly the best footage I've ever seen for wearing a seatbelt.

  6. Hence a lot of us old'uns, that remember the regular sight of cars upside
down in hedges, perhaps take it a bit steadier around bends in a car. I
    *know* my car (http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/car-and-driving/seat-
ibiza-fr-tdi-1004581.html) would take a hell of a lot to roll, but those
    memories remain.

It always amazes me to see cars upside down. I see them and I just
    wonder what on earth happened.

There was one on the A40 last night coming out of London. It looked
pretty damned squished at the front too. Lots of fire, ambulance and
    plod in attendance. Not nice.

On the A64 in the bushes quite often too. It a fairly straight dual
carriageway FFS. I've been behind 3 modern cars on the M1 that went sideways
in a 70mph ballet dance, howls of rubber, smoke, all three collided with
each other and the central res, none of them overturned.

I guess it's a special skill, a bit like car submarining, and you probably
have to attend a Roll School to learn

I would never have believed that Youtube one[1], unless I'd seen it.

1970. Three-point front belts had been compulsory on new cars here for
three years, and since been backdated to any car post 1965.

'course, you didn't have to _wear_ 'em...

  16. It's worth noting that the vast majority of the cars crashing in that
clip are rear engined, it's no wonder they roll over, given when it
    was filmed.

Yep, that one. Except she performed the exact same manoeuvre with a 4x4
    in a different clip.

    Obviously.

Driver error - if it ends up on its roof then the driver has done it all
wrong. When I rolled a Mercedes in Turkey (very long story) I had the skill
to roll it right over onto its roof then back onto its wheels again. It was
even still drivable after we had kicked it straight(ish) but it was a bit
    draughty without its windscreen.

A mate of mine rolled a Maxi on a mountain rtoad in Wales. I think he tried
to turn round in a gateway and got it lots wrong. Anyway, apparently it
rolled 360 and the windscreen popped out in one piece. He used a car jack to
get the roof back to a suitable height for driving and gaffer taped the
windscreen back in place and carried on.
