< A 21-year-old motorcyclist who was caught speeding at 155mph on a main
road is due to be sentenced.
Matthew Whitehead was caught riding his Suzuki 750cc motorbike at more than
twice the legal limit on the A3 at Horndean, Hampshire in August 2004.
He is due before Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon.
The case was adjourned earlier this month as Mr Whitehead, of Ellington
Street in North London, was away with the Royal Navy. >

What's the betting he gets a heavy fine and/or a custodial sentence. And the
granny mugger, if he got caught gets a slap on the wrist and gets legal aid
to sue the granny for carrying a handbag in a public place.

    Rant over...

Perhaps he was just testing the bike?

If it ever happens to me, and they **** me over good style (1), I shall
enjoy handbagging the Beaks mother post my release.

    (1) though JP says if there are no other aggravating circumstances it
    doesn't happen

It's more a case of whether there are enough aggrevating circumstances
to charge him with dangerous driving, which does carry a possible
custodial sentence, as opposed to simply speeding, which doesn't, no
    matter how fast.

Anyway, **** him. We all know the possible outcome of our driving
behaviour and still choose to take the risk. I obviously feel sorry
for people that get nicked, but I don't think they've any more grounds
for whingeing about it than that aussie bird banged up in Indonesia.

  6. Agreed but the issue is more to do with the laws being applied fairly to all
road users irrespective of the vehicles they use or the jobs they do
at the moment that is clearly not the case

Fair? Who said 'justice' was anything to do with 'fair'? If anyone's
entitled to whinge about the law and its application not being fair
it's me, but you'll never hear me doing so. It's always third parties
like you moaning on behalf of someone they've never met, who in all
probability will put his hands up to a 'fair cop'.

I think you should examine your own motives if it would make you happy
if the cop driver to whom you (presumably) refer was found guilty.
Given that the way the law would be applied to you or I won't be
affected by that case I can't see what difference it would make,
except for failing to arouse your jealousy.

Reading posts like these usually makes me stop and think about the sometimes
tad naughty speeds I ride at. I then jump on my bike with the firm intention
of not riding at hasty speeds. It usually lasts until the engine gets a
little warm. Seriously, I really do start out with good intentions. It's the
same good intentions I get when I'm just enjoying myself on the bike then I
see a sportsbike rider in my mirrors or just ahead. I really can't help
myself. My psychiatrist thinks I'm crazy. What does he know eh?

Go on admit it, how many can actually resist the temptation when they see
    another biker?

They're not normally in sight for long enough to cause temptation. I
just ride my normal ride, they disappear in the mirror :)

I know how you feel, Molly. This is the main reason that I like to
avoid travelling on motorways - I just open the throttle up until the
    it wont go any further.

The same is true for the car, of course.

Guilty as charged. The other day I couldn't resist catching up with another
    biker who was seriously shifting.
He nearly lost me but got held up at the pedestrian crossing where I came
    alongside him.
We exchanged a few confused nods & winks before the lights changed and we
walked briskly across the road together ....

  12. I think you should read the post again
At no time did I moan about anything (I agreed with your post) I only
commented on the unfairness of a system that punishes one group of road
users in a different manor to others when ciramstances should dictate
    otherwise

I am certainly not jealous of the officer who got let off travelling at 159
mph I am more concerned that the police in general allowed the officer to
test a car at night on a public roads at those speeds in December , the
same force incidentally that have prosecuted several private ambulances for
speeding and using blue lights whilst transporting patients between
    hospitals

Last year we got one caught speeding at more than 140mph in a 50mph road,
with a gsxr1000, he was judged and was very, very close to
    imprisonment...=:|

Exactly, here you get always judged for dangerous driving every time you get
caught speeding over 120mph, he escaped prison because police testified
that there was no other vehicle on the way in the very moment.
Ops, Yes =:p I'm from Catalonia (N-E, Spain) , where speeding it's getting
very expensive, almost like in France in the last years we've got (and
suffer) a "anti road-rage" plan too.

We have no points in the driver license yet, maybe next year...but yes, it's
