Whinging Courier fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
When I was "cheffing" that was the norm for the summer months, with no
meal breaks just the occasional stolen cigarette in the hotel back yard.

IT is much more pleasant, if dull as ****. Plus there's no waitress's to
    molest :(

    wisdom:
I get to chat to some of the nicest looking totty, even if it *is*
    Indian.

Funnily enough, I feel more awake now then when I get home early.

    *Sigh*

  5. You didn't have "drivers' hours" legislation, though....

One respectfully points the OP at
    http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/work_time_regs/wtr0.htm

so he can be aware of the current regs and tell his employers to go forth
    and multiply etc etc

No. 15 hours *driving* would be. 15 hour shift is okay.

Don't think it's illegal but I think you still need the half an hour
every 4 hours and a break of 11 hours between shifts.

    Apparently it's 20 minutes every 6 hours.

An HGV driver's daily rest can be reduced to 9 hours, a maximum of
    twice in one week.

Also, a daily rest can be reduced to eight hours, providing a
four-hour continuous rest is taken at some point the following day.
This can only happen once in a week.

    God, I'm dull.

Problem is that whilst the regulations may state one thing the reality
    is totally different.

In most of the small business's I've worked in the employer would merely
point you in the direction of the exit whilst offering a a P45.

Nothing to do with the complaint you'd made of course...

Many competing catering establishments chat with one another and "swap"
the more menial staff so that no one ever gets to 2 years employement
    rights etc.

Blimey, I'd have thought it should be increase over A.N.Other worker
rather than decreased from a safety point of view.

He should have had two twenty minutes breaks rather than one 30 minutes
one - that's all I can see wrong with it.

The working time thing is such a sop anyway - it's all about "averages".

  19. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Ben amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
Nope. Drivers have to take 30 minutes every six hours regardless of
hours driven, so if I drive for two hours and do other work for four
hours I have to take 30 minutes which can be taken in two lots of
    fifteen.

I usually they and have 15 minutes every two hours just to keep them
happy but that's not always possible.
