    Hi all,

I'm new to the group, and don't have a bike yet. I'm doing my CBT next
month with a view to doing the tests and getting hold of something
    around 400cc ASAP. Once I've done CBT, I expect I'll get a 125 straight
away and would be keen to use it for my daily commute... if it can be
    trusted.

I must admit to being totally green on most bike-related things, and
have no idea what the reliability of 125s is like these days. My
question is, given a decent bike to start with and regular servicing,
could you trust a 125 to do a 15-20 mile each way commute several times
    per week?

    TIA

I can't think of a reason why not.

    Yes

Now be a good chap and go and have a read of the ukrm ffaq, it might
save you a lot of trouble over the next few hours.

Used to do it every day on a POS MTX125
AFAIK CG125s (MSOHP) go on for approximately forever, but they were too
    small for me.

As long as you choose the right one, agreed. A small quality 4 stroke
product from the likes of Honda should be just fine. A Chinese copy 2
    stroke on the other hand.....

A Honda CG125 will outlast your endurance and your patience.

Nice one lads. Thanks for this and all the other replies. FAQ digested,
as requested. I'll try not to post anything stupid, but can't promise!

    Cheers,

my endurance and/or patience for a CG125 would be about 20 minutes.

I mean, I used to ride one when I was learning, but I wouldn't want to
    actually go anywhere on one.

The OP needs something that's at least interesting, say a DT125X.

You don't need to 'run' one to know they're a boring as it gets.
    Like I said, boring.
    Not boring, see?
    Quite.

Yes, for 3 months - though as soon as I passed my test, I got a proper
    bike.
that tank on my R65LS lasts for 200+ miles too, so what?

I was simply[1] pointing out that you can have a 200+ mile tank range
on a bike that isn't completely and utterly boring.

[1] not simply enough, as it turns out.
