I think it probably is the same place. I'll tell you where to go to
take some amusing photos when I see you at the bosm.

I was working somewhere else today when the tannoy announced that we
were 10 seconds from reactor trip and then proceeded to count them
down over the system. I was working in our steel container at the time
and even though I knew the reactor was scheduled to trip I almost felt
the urge to pull the door shut.

  2. Aye, "KEEP OUT - HERE BE TYGERS" it says on the charts, doesn't it.

Notably there's one just off the end of the runway at Lydd airport in
Kent (Dungeness - although I may be a tad out of date there as I'm not
sure it's even an active power station any more). Bloody inconsiderate
place for a no-fly zone (although, other than that, probably a good
place for a nuclear reactor as it's a godforsaken shithole anyway).

  3. Heh. Mad Phil the Pilot and myself precisely skirted the no-fly zone
around Sellafield one summer's day, half expecting a rocket up the chuff
    any second.

Probably couldn't do it now, though.

I quite like Dungeness. Anywhere that bleak has to have a certain charm.

I always think I should take the bike down whenever I'm working there
if only because we usually stop in Rye and the road from the power
station to Rye is an entertaining one.

It is, especially if you go up past Lydd airport instead of towards Rye.

As is the road from Rye to Hastings via Icklesham.

  9. Actually, in all fairness (not that anyone is Dungeness will read this,
as I doubt there is internet access there yet...), I think that's a
    very good point.
