3 months and £230 for only 12mph more than my 6 weeks and £210. Hah,
    I reckon he was done.

Mind you, I didn't get on the telly or try to hide under a stationary
    tree on a moving motorbike.

He should have just aimed for the nearest airport. Police helicopters
can't fly in restricted airspace IIRC.

  5. Err... Helecopters can't operate near airports, eh? Let's think about
    this a bit...

You think they can barge into controlled airspace unexpected?

That's not what I said, but perhaps I need to elaborate. Helicopters
can operate near airports all they like, but they can't just fly across
    controlled airspace at will.

  8. No, but I think they're probably fitted with radios.

Have a look at the size of the control zones around international
airports on an avaition chart. A helicopter that could only operate in
class G airspace would be bugger all use to anyone. The London TMA goes
all the way to the ground and stretches out as far as parts of Essex
    and Surrey.

  9. True, they need to ask for a special VFR clearance first. And 10
seconds later, when they've been given it, you'd still be up shit
    street with helicopter above you...

    Depends from which direction.

I believe it goes beyond the Essex coast, past the Clacton beacon.

    A VFR wouldn't catch me.

  13. We tend to get helicopters converging over my office going south
(and diverging going north). I presume it's so they can fly across the
middle of LHR where the incoming planes are already on the ground and the
    outgoings haven't yet left it.

  16. It doesn't go down to ground level out that far though, so you can pass
underneath it VFR just east of the M25 Dartford crossing (this is from
    aging, beer-addled memory).

I expect there are people here with much more up-to-date charts and
    knowledge than me...

I suggest a little research would be a good idea here.

I can think of at least one place where absolutely nothing at all is
allowed to fly over it and that includes military aircraft. It's not
    an airport either.

I can think of one, too, and it may be the same one. It's crawling
with police of its own, though, and many of them are armed...
