I called the 800-CCRIDER to get class information for a friend, and I'm
    getting a disconnected number.

Is there a new number? Where can I find a list of schools that provide a
    DL 389 (skills test wavier)?

  2. Good luck.

There is a major pissing match going on right now between the MSF and many
of the various state-run rider training programs. An oversimplified
summary is that the MSF--run by the mc manufacturers--is trying to water
down the training courses, make it easier to get training, and thereby
create a built-in waiver of liability from riding injury claims. Many of
the state-run training courses are resisting, and getting their heads
handed to them on a platter thanks to the equation $ = power.

I just read that one of the Bay area training providers who ran courses in
Marin, Solano and South bay was sacked on what seems like trumped up
violations (didn't have paper liners in some of the loaner helmets,
    egawd).

Things are in a bit of turmoil right now.

A little google work pulled up the same page. I just thought it was odd,
since http://www.dmv.ca.gov/ still has the 800 number posted all over,
    and in the rider's handbook.

  4. That's good to hear. I hope it can be improved. I tried on a couple of
occasions to sign up for an experienced rider class, and never was able to
    get through.

The Los Altos MtV Adult center has a MSF class and they seem to have
    regular (once a year?)
ER courses. BUT you must have a stock exhaust system to participate.

I can look up the phone number if there is enough interest...
