Quite a few Hurricanes have come out of Russia, though to get them
flying again would cost a bit. I know of an ex-Russian Hurri for sale
    - bare bones and the asking price is >100k..
Never liked that model's looks, though apparently a brilliant job. A
    Grey Flash would be cool.
Yes, love Alvises (Alvi?) Or a prewar Jaguar SS

Nah. Mark Vb. The best of the Spits. All the power of the IX at low
to medium altitude, plus the pure looks of the original short nose
    Merlin.

Documentary on the Battle of Britain flight on Friday - the engineer
in charge of the over-winter check of the Lancaster said that the
airframe has such robustness built in that they expect to be able to
    keep it flying virtually indefinitely.

  5. Of course, and I have no dispute about that.

What I was picking up on was Mungo's post where the very *first* thing
he'd think about was tax liability.[/QUOTE]

    Fairy nuff.

My *very* first thought would be: "Whoopie!"

    ago.

  7. The best looking, I'll grant you.

    Apart from the clipped-wingtip one.

Eh? You kidding right. I could do some parts of America quite happily,
best medicle service in the world. New Zealand, rain forest,
savannah, desert all in one place. A few Carribean Islands might tempt
me. Fuckit, I could almost afford my own. South Africa or Indonesia maybe.

I thin the ppoint your making is valid, Monkey Island isn't too bad a
place, and fer sure, the majority of the rest of the world is worse.
But with money no object, jump on a first class flight and buy a house
*anywhere* in the world, I'd be gone like a shot. Christ, I'd even
    consider Spain!

Even apart from your misspelling, and the fact that it's only
available to the well-off while millions of people only have access to
the most basic healthcare, this is such a load of bollocks I don't
know where to start. Why on earth would you think such a thing?
As one who's already moved abroad, I have my own ideas of positives
and negatives of various places, but you seem to be saying that
_anywhere_ is prefereable to the good old UK. What's so bad about it
that you'd move straight away, but that you've not already done so?

Ah, but with £35.4M in your current account you'd probably fall into the
    category of "well-off".

Possibly nearly as well-off as the doctor treating you.

I've just caught up with this and after making sure I'd hidden enough
money in offshore accounts for my family to live on (at least a couple
of generations worth iyswim) and sorted out my own needs I'd set up
feeds to varying charities and try to ensure the government never got
    a penny.

If this is considered being anti-social or ignoring my
responsibilities then my defense is that I'd sooner give £20m + away
to organisations of my choice than subsidise a war that I don't agree
with. In fact I'd sooner give the money away to beggars in the street
than let the government have it.

And allegedly the nicest to fly, though the MkVIII is also supposed to
be sublime. But with all of them I think it's degrees of sublime.
Must find out for myself one day...

"Clipped, cropped and clapped" - alluding to wings, supercharger
impeller and overall condition, allegedly. That said, though it does
**** up the classic lines, I quite like the look of the clipped wing
    Spit.

I'd like to know more, I must say. The RAF did a series of
comparitive tests between the Lightning and the Spit in the early 60s,
to get an idea of tactics the RAF pilots could use if they came up
against P51s used by the Indonesians during the Confrontation. The
results were predicatable - the Spit could outmanouever the Lightning
close to but had no defence against a high speed radar pass with
missiles - you could say the Spit "won", depending on the parameters.

I know the basics of what was written but not the details and
considering I still spend some of my time working on military projects
you'll understand that I'm not going to repeat it on here.

Just think basics and what makes a given military aircraft better than
other options available. It's not all about flying btw.

His employer didn't see the funny side and nor did the end user
    iyswim.

Any fool could do the same after spending an hour or so on google.
It's a matter of comparisms but not necessarily top speed or
    firepower.
