    I remember it

The idea is so good it's worth repeating. Of course it needs all 6
Browning .303s armed and operational to be worthwhile.

    1. If football is more interesting to you than mankind's finest
expression of engineering, your kind is not welcome here.
    2. Your apology should be addressed to the group, not one individual.
    3. You shouldn't be apologising in the first place.

    JHFC.

Why would anyone want to go there (with that much money)?

I would go to SE Asia, and use that as a base for traveling around the
    world - many times.

Define "should". The amount requested, or the amount you consider
appropriate, or the legal minium? Just wondering, like. And wondering
if that extends to other areas, like speed limits - you "should" stay
under the speed limit, but many of us (including you) don't. That
clearly doesn't make it right, I'm just wondering how flexible your
    values are.

Would be more interesting to see how your salary compares to what your
Swiss colleagues are earning. Maybe the pay is better in Switzerland...

  9. Actually, it still does. There are so many being restored that supply is
matching demand and the price is quite stable. Apparently.

  11. Depends which one. There are plenty of old DC3s, Spitfires and
(especially) P51s flying, whose airframes have proven to be massively
    over-engineered.

  12. It's only fair.

If the tax people are going to arrange affairs so that if you do x then
you pay them y, what's twrong with people arranging their own affairs so
    that they don't do x?

Tax avoidance and tax evasion are rather different things.

Many years ago someone (who should have known better) laid out a
comparism of the Tornado v a WW2 Mosquito for a Sunday paper. The
Mosquito won and he lost his job over it.

I'm blaming my spell chucker for that one.
The only part of the EFA I worked on was the front end so I wouldn't
have a clue what could be stuck onto it when the need arised.

Tricky one, actually. I guess it's at least partially down to lack on
Unionism over the years, but unlike the UK there's very little
standardisation of pay scales, and once you've started in the company,
on whatever they thought they could get away with offering at the
time, there's no expectation whatsoever of salary increases over time.
Even inflation-related increases (normally around 2-3%) are viewed as
a 'bonus' and are dependant on achieving agreed performance goals etc.

So some people may have started years back on low salaries which
seemed OK to them due to their previous expectations, in which case
they'll still be on much lower salaries then their peers. This can
also be true for new hires, and of course the oppoosite is equallly
    common.

So in practice we don't talk about such things, but I do know that,
for whatever reason, I was started on a higher scale and salary than
most of my colleagues (Swiss and German). So maybe the CH/UK
comparison based on that isn't entirely representative.

They aren't though, the same that is, at least not for me. I pay my
income tax as needed, which isn't always the amount requested, but is
sometimes more than the legal minium.
That's ok then <g>. It was just the "should" word, if you should abide
by one set of legislation, then surely you should abide by all of them.

Hmmmm. Of course, it's hardly surprising that us mere mortals wouldn't
be aware of that, but it does seem like a pretty good deal if you're
sitting on 100 million CHFs. Trouble is, you need to have not worked
for ten years before it applies, so it's a long-term view only.

Besides which, what could possibly be worth that sort of dosh? And if
I ever did such a thing I'd probably have been drinking loads of
champers anyway, which doesn't usually lead to the best performance.
Maybe the C would counteract it - never tried it, so I wouldn't know.
